Below is simply an overview of our services, and does not list every service offered.
Staff are trained to administer all types of medications.
Our program has a menu that changes every two months. Each menu features nutritious meals prepared in locked kitchens. Our residents participate in a daily workout program, starting with an initial assessment with our personal trainer followed by quarterly assessments to monitor progress.
We strive to help increase opportunities for independence and support our residents through a variety of person-centered supports to help each resident live in the most least-restrictive environment possible.
Unfortunately, many group homes provide limited opportunities for community integration. But not us! We prepare monthly activity calendars, with input from each resident. This provides a visual for each resident so that they know what to expect. Each day offers an opportunity to leave the house for some sort of outing. In addition, our residents engage in a number of additional activities within the comfort of their own home.
Our staff receive initial & on-going training on Prader Willi syndrome. This includes behavior support training with our trainers - who have significant experience and advanced training on PWS. Our care plans & behavior support plans are tailored to each individual's unique needs, and provide incentives to aid in behavior management. Our staff are trained to offer supportive, yet firm boundaries - which is essential when caring for an individual with PWS.
Abilities Midwest provides quality care and services to individuals with Prader Willi syndrome. Our motto is 'Proving the abilities, despite the disability.' We do this by focusing on what individuals with PWS can safely do, not further restricting their lives even more. Our residents are active members of their communities, further showing just how capable they truly are at living safe, yet happy & healthy lives with the right supports.
We refuse to just hire bodies. We are dedicated to hiring fantastic staff members, many of which are students or have experience in social work, exercise science, and other related fields. Our entire team, including director level positions, are required to spend time on-site and in the community with the residents, because that is how you truly know the people that you support.
While we are still a relatively new provider, opening only in July of 2021, our commitment to excellence as well as experienced team has earned us a reputation as a trusted and reliable provider in the PWS community. We have received praise for our dedicated efforts in securing placement for individuals in need of services, despite barriers such as out-of-state funding. We advocate alongside families and care managers to fight for our residents.
